The Boston Celtics defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 109 – 101 to take a 1 – 0 lead in their first round series of the 2020 NBA Playoffs at the Disney restart bubble despite extremely physical, aggressive play from the 76ers.
“Playoff” Al Horford was in full effect alongside Joel Embiid, and Philly’s shooters gave the Celtics a handful.
Several Boston players scored in double digits, including forward Jayson Tatum (32 points, 13 rebounds, 3 blocks), shooting guard Jaylen Brown (29 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals), point guard Kemba Walker (19 points and 5 assists) and forward Gordon Hayward (12 points, 4 boards and 4 steals).
Hayward turned his ankle fairly hard late in the game, and Brown took a hit in his quad from Embiid earlier, with the latter able to keep paying while Hayward had to come out of the game.
All in all, it went about how it was expected — if a little closer than perhaps some might have anticipated — with Boston’s wings too much for Philly to handle.
