On Monday morning, the Boston Celtics formally introduced former Brooklyn Nets assistant coach Ime Udoka as the 18th head coach in franchise history for the storied ball club, prompting team co-owner Steve Pagliuca to quip that it would be apt for Udoka to bring banner 18 to the team.
Jokes or no, the mood was high as the expectations, with expressions of confidence abounding in the press conference welcoming the Portland native into the fold of the wider Celtics family. Joined fellow team owner Wyc Grousbeck, Pagliuca, and new President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens, the foursome talked up the new hire while the media grilled him.
