It didn’t take long for a former Jacksonville Jaguar to show up in the highlights for the Xtreme Football League. Former Jags defensive back Cody Brown found himself as a popular name on social media after making a big-time hit in the second game of the XFL’s relaunch between the Houston Roughnecks and Los Angeles Wildcats.
THAT'S how you protect your end zone.
Goodness.

In an attempt at the end zone by the Wildcats, Brown was able to  come from over the top to lay a massive hit on receiver Jordan Smallwood to prevent a touchdown that would’ve given the Wildcats the lead. The cornerback covering Smallwood slipped, so it would’ve been an easy catch but with the quarterback putting a little too much air on the ball, Brown was able to get there to make the highlight play.
Afterward, the XFL reviewed the hit and deemed it legal as Brown made contact with the helmet, but didn’t launch at the receiver and led with his shoulder.
Transparency.

Brown signed with the Jags last April after a solid run with the Salt Lake City Stallions of the Alliance of American Football League. He was only on the team for a little over a month but it’s certainly good to see him having success after time in the NFL.
As for the game, the Roughnecks ended up winning the game 37-17.
