WATCH: Do the Boston Celtics need to trade Marcus Smart for a ‘real’ point guard?

This trope seems to stick around, bubbling up whenever Boston hits road bumps. But does it make sense?

Do the Boston Celtics have a problem at the point? At least one prominent NBA analyst seems to think that they do, suggesting that the team needs to consider moving veteran guard Marcus Smart for a “real” point guard.

Evidently displeased by what he has seen so far, Stadium’s Jeff Goodman made the claim that the Celtics are holding themselves back with the Flower Mound native running the point. This despite the winning plays Smart produces on the regular, with Goodman seeing more of a glass half full with the Oklahoma State product in the role of floor general this season.

What is his logic, and why does he feel that way? Listen to the latest episode of the CLNS Media podcast “The Garden Report” to hear Goodman defend his position along with WEEI radio host Gary Tanguay and Boston sportswriter emeritus Bob Ryan.
