The 49ers badly needed a score to open the second half, so they turned to their best player – wide receiver running back Deebo Samuel.
He got the drive kickstarted with a 49-yard run to get the 49ers all the way to the Vikings’ 8. A holding penalty moved them back, but a screen to George Kittle put them back inside the 5, where Samuel took over again. His 3-yard rushing score was his fifth rushing touchdown of the season and 10th touchdown overall.
Ideally the 49ers would be able generate yards with players beyond Samuel, but for the last few weeks it’s been working and it helped the 49ers take a 21-14 lead over Minnesota.
