WATCH: Cowboys UDFA WR Dennis Houston hauls in Hail Mary

The Cowboys are uncovering potential players left and right, and the Western Illinois product continues to fight for a roster spot with impressive plays. | From @KDDrummondNFL

In the joint practices with the Los Angeles Chargers, the two clubs do their individual and team work separately, and then come together to face off and get some action in with the opposing helmets. While the Cowboys have been dealing with inconsistencies out of their depleted wide receiver corps, especially with No. 1 wideout CeeDee Lamb missing the two days of work with a cut on his foot, there have always been moments for optimism.

Such a moment occurred at the end of practice, on the opposite field to where fifth-round rookie DaRon Bland intercepted a pass in the red zone to shut down the Chargers. On Dallas’ offense’s side, the two-minute drill was capped off by quarterback Dak Prescott finding his new friend, Western Illinois UDFA WR Dennis Houston for a Hail Mary completion to finish things off.

Houston has made an impression thus far in camp, challenging the Cowboys to consider finding a way to place him on the 53-man roster. In fact, in Cowboys Wire’s latest projection, Houston was included. His route-running and game intelligence have been lauded by many, including Prescott, on several occasions this offseason. Thursday’s clutch catch was just another reason to consider keeping him instead of stashing him on the practice squad.
