In the preseason, players are given rare opportunities to move up the depth chart, the kind of opportunities that don’t come often in the regular season. After scoring on a five-play touchdown drive earlier in the game, Dallas quarterback Cooper Rush dropped it in the basket once again- this time to wide receiver Cedrick Wilson- for his second touchdown pass of the game.

On this drive, the Cowboys methodically marched down the field in 13 plays after starting at their own 15. Wilson’s eight-yard grab gives the Cowboys the lead for the first time in this game.
Rush is now 9-for-11 in the game for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Coming into the game, backup quarterback Garrett Gilbert needed to keep some security in his role. After a turnover and a quick punt, Gilbert was removed for Rush, and the opportunity wasn’t wasted by the Central Michigan product. If Rush keeps the play up, he could be the backup to quarterback Dak Prescott in Week 1.
