Matt Rhule has developed a reputation for acquiring his guys, meaning players and coaches who previously worked with him in the college ranks. In free agency, the Panthers have already signed six former Temple players, including quarterback P.J. Walker, linebackers Tahir Whitehead and Sam Franklin, wide receivers Keith Kirkwood and Robby Anderson and tight end Colin Thompson.
Rhule has also hit up Baylor for recruits. In the sixth round of the draft, the team picked defensive tackle Bravvion Roy. Carolina also signed undrafted offensive lineman Sam Tecklenburg, bringing him out of retirement. In addition to his experience with Rhule, Tecklenburg offers the ability to play multiple positions.
Let’s take a look at some of Tecklenburg’s college tape, beginning in 2019 when he was at left guard (No. 52).
Tecklenburg vs. Texas Tech (2019)
Tecklenburg vs. Kansas State (2019)
Tecklenburg actually began his college career as a tight end. He also played a lot of center, as in these clips from 2018.
Tecklenburg vs. Oklahoma (2018)
Tecklenburg vs. Texas (2018)
Tecklenburg vs. TCU (2018)
Given his connection with the head coach and Carolina’s lack of interior depth, he has a good chance to make the team.
