WATCH: Christian Veilleux throws first TD pass of career as Penn State takes 7-0 lead to halftime vs Rutgers

Penn State’s offense was stuck in the mud for much of the first half against Rutgers on Saturday afternoon, but backup quarterback Christian Veilleux led the Nittany Lions to a touchdown shortly before halftime to provide a much-needed spark. Veilleux’s first career touchdown pass was completed to none other than Jahan Dotson to give Penn State the first point of the game.

It took a while for Dotson to get involved in the game as the Penn State offense was struggling to get things going against the Rutgers defense. But on Penn State’s touchdown drive, it may not be a coincidence that Dotson made his first catch of the game a few plays prior to get the Nittany Lions inside the red zone. And a play designed to give Dotson a chance to find some open field in the end zone by offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich was executed perfectly by Veilleux, who waited just long enough and timed his pass perfectly to allow Dotson to make the play for the touchdown.

Veilleux entered the game late in the first quarter after starting quarterback Sean Clifford headed to the locker room with an apparent arm injury. It was also reported Clifford may have been feeling a little under the weather as well.

Penn State took a 7-0 lead into halftime as a result of this play and Rutgers getting to a point where they would just accept going to halftime down one score.
