The moment when an NFL rookie finds out he’s been selected to his first NFL team on draft night is one of the most magical moments you can capture in the offseason of any sport. Surrounded by his family, the pomp and circumstance of the NFL Draft often leads to big celebrations and even bigger group hugs. But in these unordinary times, the 2020 NFL Draft’s general manager to player exchanges are much more intimate.

For Auburn cornerback Noah Igbinoghene, Thursday night’s first round finale was able to invoke one of the more traditional “draft party” reactions as his loved ones rallied to celebrate as Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier informed Igbinoghene of the news.

He officially a Miami Dolphin.

“We got to spend a lot of time with you and get to know you. You had a great year, love your play style and we think you’re a great fit for us.”

The Dolphins came out of left field with this selection a bit — but Brian Flores’ defense runs on defensive back play and with the selection of Igbinoghene, the Dolphins add another standout player to a secondary that’s already loaded with significant talent. The Dolphins’ secondary has top-50 picks present in CB Byron Jones, CB Xavien Howard, SS Eric Rowe and now Igbinoghene, who figures to play the nickel role in Miami’s press heavy defense.

We can worry about the fine details of the personnel groupings down the road. There’s plenty more picks to be made this afternoon and tomorrow.
