WATCH: Chris Godwin Scores 1st touchdown of 2021 NFL season

The first points of the 2021 NFL season were scored by a former Penn State player.

The NFL made its return to the field on Thursday night with the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosting the Dallas Cowboys. While college football has already gone through two weeks on its schedule, the return of the NFL now officially means football is back for everybody.

And it was good to see. It was also good to see a Penn State player score the first NFL touchdown of the year.

Former Penn State wide receiver Chris Godwin was responsible for the first touchdown of the 2021 NFL season when he caught a pass over the middle from Tom Brady for a five-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Not only was Godwin’s score the first touchdown of the season, but it was the first score as well.

Godwin was impressive in the season opener for the Bucs. The former Nittany Lion caught a team-high nine passes for 105 yards on a night where Brady passed for 379 yards and four scores.

Godwin played at Penn State from 2014-2016 with 154 catches for 2,421 yards and 18 touchdowns. Godwin was part of Big Ten championship team in 2016.
