Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce is participating in his ninth training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri. For how animated and energized he is on the sidelines and in the huddle, you’d think that this was his first training camp.
Kelce has some classic moments in this latest mic’d up, all caught on audio and video. First, he calls rookie RB Isiah Pacheco, “Pistachio.” He also says, “Let’s get him the ball.” So perhaps that’s a little bit of an endorsement for the seventh-round rookie.
Kelce has also taken a liking to UDFA QB Dustin Crum, who he mimicked several times during the video.
“I love his cadence, man,” Kelce says. “I can’t help it. . . He’s got one tone. He’s just a Cleveland Baller— Northeast Ohio Baller.”
“Is that where he’s from,” Blake Bell asks.
“Oh yeah,” Kelce says. “You can’t tell? You can’t tell from his swagger. No armbands. No leg bands. Mid calf socks. I’m just glad he grabbed a towel.”
One of the exciting things is that you get to see Kelce energizing his teammates on what is clearly a hot and humid day out in St. Joseph, Missouri. You’ve got guys kneeling on the sidelines, hands on their hips on the field and he’s out there encouraging them to keep going.
“That was miserable,” Kelce says to Marquez Valdes-Scantling. “That’s alright, it’s going to get us right.”
“Aye, feel how uncomfortable this is and let’s take it up another notch,” Kelce says. “Let’s take it one more step deeper, man.”
Finally, Kelce wraps it up by chopping it up with some Chiefs legends and thanking them for what they’ve done for the league. Kansas City is extremely lucky to have such a gem of a person and player.
