Kansas City Chief S Tyrann Mathieu is off to a hot start to the 2021 NFL season.
After being inactive for the season opener against the Cleveland Browns, Mathieu is back in the starting lineup for Kansas City for “Sunday Night Football” against the Baltimore Ravens. On just his third snap of the season, Mathieu was able to make a big play happen.
Ravens QB Lamar Jackson targeted former Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins, but Watkins slipped on his comeback route. The ball sailed past Watkins and right into the Honey Badger’s arms. As he did frequently back during his days with LSU, Mathieu managed an incredible 34-yard interception return for a touchdown, juking Jackson in the process.

This is the third pick-six of Mathieu’s career and his second as a member of the Chiefs. He had a pick-six against the New England Patriots in Week 4 of the 2020 NFL season as well.
This was definitely the hot start on defense that the Chiefs needed this week, but they’ll need to do a better job next time out. The Ravens already scored the equalizer on the ensuing offensive drive for Baltimore.
