The Kansas City Chiefs have scored the first touchdown of the game in their Week 4 tilt against the Philadelphia Eagles.
At first it looked like Tyreek Hill had a 37-yard catch-and-run touchdown, but he was ruled just short of the goal line on the play. With just a few yard to go to the end zone, you’d expect the Chiefs to hammer the ball on the ground. They had success doing so on a third-and-1 earlier in the drive.
Instead, the Chiefs decided to go with a pass of sorts, with an underhanded toss from QB Patrick Mahomes to RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire. It was a sneaky play that caught the Eagles defense by surprise.

Kansas City has used the underhand pass effectively near the goal line before. It’s always a risky play with a lot of bodies in close vicinity of the pass, but it’s also super rewarding when it works out.
The Chiefs got Edwards-Helaire involved a lot on that first drive with several carries and a pair of catches including the score. Philadelphia seems to struggle defending running backs in both facets of the game, so expect a healthy dose of Edwards-Helaire moving forward.
