While he clearly would have preferred to have had such a game in a win, Boston Celtics rookie point guard Payton Pritchard had one of his best games of his inaugural season in the NBA against the Chicago Bulls in Monday’s 102 – 96 loss to the Windy City franchise at TD Garden.
The Oregon product put up 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting (including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc) in a start necessitated by non-COVID illness decimating the Celtics’ guard rotation, with veterans Kemba Walker and Marcus Smart late scratches for a contest already planning to be without Evan Fournier.
The thin backcourt proved too much to overcome for Boston, but the first-year floor general showed flashes of why the Celtics elected to draft him this past offseason.
