On Aug. 14, 1959, Michigan State basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson Jr. was born into this world. Magic played basketball for the Spartans between 1977 and 1979. He joined a studded roster featuring future NBA players such as Jay Vincent and Greg Kelser.

Magic was absolutely crucial to Michigan State’s 1979 championship run. In the championship game, Johnson played against future NBA rival Larry Bird.

Let me just say, I love watching Magic Johnson play basketball. He is supremely athletic, boasts a ridiculously high basketball IQ, and is so methodical on the court. Few things are more enjoyable than a Magic Johnson-led fastbreak.
