It’s safe to say with All-Star point guard Kemba Walker and second-year wing Romeo Langford sidelined by injury until some time in January, expectations were low for the Boston Celtics’ season opener against NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.
But, perhaps inspired by the spirit of the late, great Tommy Heinsohn and the eight banners lowered to court level to pay tribute to the Celtic icon, Boston put together an awe-inspiring performance revolving around star forwards Jaylen Brown (33 points) and Jayson Tatum (30 points). Brown was the star of the show for much of the game as his teammate struggled with accuracy early.
Thankfully, Tatum put that behind him later in the game, even banking in a game-winner.
