While the tune-up exhibition scrimmage game played by the Boston Celtics did not actually count for anything further than a general assessment of where the team is at after a near- four month layoff due to the pandemic, it did give us some feedback on what is going well…
…and what still needs work.
The starters looked generally solid on offense apart from a lot of front-rimming shots away from the basket and missed coverages on defense, and the second unit did a better job than usual on offense as well.
But, defense was a challenge for the bench as well.
Still, there was unmistakable growth in the rotation players, and lazy defense is eminently fixable, so despite the awkward 98-84 score, there’s a lot to build off of — and plenty of work to do in a short amount of time.
