To call veteran defensive specialist Marcus Smart the heart and soul of the Boston Celtics is no understatement to anyone familiar with the franchise over the last half-decade.
And to call him just a defensive specialist is to ignore — at one’s peril — the massive steps forward the Texan has made this season as an offensive threat as well.
So far, in the 2019-20 season to date, the Flower Mound native has averaged 12.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game with the Celtics, while shooting 34.7 % from beyond the arc on a furious 6.6 attempts per game.
And as always, Smart is making winning plays of the most absurd variety, perhaps emboldened in the Disney restart bubble to dive for even more loose balls and errant passes than usual with the lack of bodies and chairs to collide with in the fanless arenas of the Wide World of Sports complex courts.
