Team USA was hoping to win back the gold medal in this year’s FIBA World Cup after a dismal showing in the last such tournament in 2019. That year, it finished seventh.
Unfortunately, there will be no real redemption this time around.
On Friday morning, the Americans suffered a stunning 113-111 loss to Germany in the semifinal round. Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Dennis Schroder was a big problem with 17 points and nine assists, plus a couple of clutch baskets late to seal Team USA’s fate.
Austin Reaves did his best to give the Americans a chance to win. He scored 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting overall and 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Eleven of those points came in the final 4:28 of the contest.
As usual, he provided a few highlights.

Team USA can still claim the bronze medal if it defeats Canada on Sunday.
