Watch: A glimpse at LeBron James’ high school football career

Before LeBron James became an NBA superstar, he had a reasonably successful football career in high school.

Over the last 19 years, LeBron James has become one of the NBA’s greatest players of all time.

But perhaps there is an alternate universe in which James chose to play football and had some serious success in the NFL.

When he was at St. Vincent–St. Mary High School in his native Akron, Ohio, he played varsity football, lining up at wide receiver. He did pretty well, earning first team all-state honors as a sophomore and taking his team to the state semifinals the following year.

People who are fans of both basketball and football can take a brief look at what James looked like on the gridiron back then.

At 6 foot 8 and about 250 pounds, James could’ve revolutionized the wide receiver position in the NFL: He is built more like a tight end.

It’s not like James hasn’t ever thought of playing pro football. During the 2011 NBA lockout, the Dallas Cowboys offered him a contract. More recently, the Seattle Seahawks let him know he was welcome to join their roster.
