Matthew Stafford is in 15th NFL season and turned 35 years old back in February. Yet, he’s consistently shown that he plays with the same fire he did when he was a 21-year-old rookie with the Detroit Lions.
And having gained all that experience as a pro quarterback, he’s as good as it gets as a leader.
Stafford showed a bit of his leadership style – and fun side – while mic’d up in practice earlier this week, joking with his teammates while also helping guys like Stetson Bennett.
His warmup isn’t as intensive as it once was, either.
“My stretch and warmup today was jogging to take a leak. It’s like 2 miles away,” Stafford said while getting ready for practice.
The whole video of Stafford mic’d up is fantastic, showing just how Stafford leads and what’s going through his mind during practice.
“Hey, Puka. Nice route, bud. Good job. Plays like that, it’s gonna be big-body inside shot,” Stafford said to the rookie Nacua. Hey, Puka! Nice (expletive) catch in traffic. Attaboy.”
“Kyren, nice job, buddy,” he said to Williams.
Stafford is seen coaching up most of his receivers, from Nacua and Demarcus Robinson to Tutu Atwell and Van Jefferson.
Check out the full mic’d-up video below, which is 5 minutes of excellent content.
