Washington’s top WR target projected to choose Florida

Washington is projected to lose out on its top wide receiver target.

The Washington Huskies coaching staff has made a big push to secure one of the transfer portal’s top wide receivers, but so far it has come up empty. However, throughout the process, former Texas wide receiver Johntay Cook has been one of position coach Kevin Cummings’ top choices.

The former five-star recruit took an official visit to Washington last week before also taking a trip to Florida and on Tuesday, On3’s Pete Nakos logged a crystal ball prediction for Cook to choose the Gators over the Huskies.

Both programs have defined quarterbacks of the future in DJ Lagway and Demond Williams Jr. and plenty of young talent at wide receiver, but Washington appears to have a bigger need for Cook’s services. Through two seasons at Texas, the 6-foot, 185-pounder put together 16 catches for 273 yards and 2 touchdowns, an average of 17.1 yards per catch.

After Jeremiah Hunter and Giles Jackson both used their final season of eligibility in 2024, Jedd Fisch is looking to bring in an experienced wide receiver to complement Cummings’ young group. The Huskies are expected to have eight wide receivers listed as sophomores or younger on the roster in 2025.

If Cook makes his Florida commitment official, Washington’s options at wide receiver will be extremely thin, with NC State’s KC Concepcion as the top uncommitted option according to 247Sports.
