Washington’s top DL target Dominic Macon is a major riser

The Huskies have zeroed in on Dominic Macon as one of their top defensive targets and with his high ceiling it is for good reason.

The Washington Huskies have always been known for making the most of underrated recruits that other schools overlooked. This tradition should continue under coach Jedd Fisch, and defensive Dominic Macon could be the next in line.

The Huskies have been heavily pursuing talented defenders as they are still looking to build a class that can make an impact on that side of the ball.

Macon is part of another important weekend of visits for the Huskies and te team is likely hoping that with a successful visit, Macon will quickly commit before he continues to rise this season. As a product of Adrienne C. Nelson High School in Happy Valley, Oregon, Macon is well within Washington’s traditional recruiting footprint and the coaching staff could steal him away from other northwest schools early on.

State champion wrestlers who are also high-level recruits are few and far between. Macon went 33-0 in matches during his junior season and the power and leverage he uses as a wrestler is key to his success on the football field.

Coaches from all over the nation should love the way that Macon plays, he has a rare motor that never stops. As a high effort run defender, Macon is able to run plays down from the backside and even showed some ability to two-gap from the nose tackle position, somewhere he could fit very well at in college. Macon has plenty of room to add weight to his frame which should terrify opposing teams as he is already listed at 305 pounds.

As a pass rusher, there are foundational traits to work with and though he may never be a player that racks up sacks, he can be impactful at the college level. Macon’s strength and natural leverage will allow him to collapse the pocket from the interior.

Developing a more nuanced pass-rush plan will go into this as well, luckily Macon already shows solid hand usage as a rusher, which if harnessed by college coaching could turn him into a weapon in this area.

Finding his ideal position may take some time as he transitions to the college level and the competition jump he’s facing could also present some challenges but with his meteoric rise this past season, defensive coordinator Steve Belichick and his staff should have full confidence that his trajectory continues to point straight upwards if he were to commit to Washington.
