The Washington Huskies women’s soccer team hosted the Michigan Wolverines, defeating them 3-1 on Montlake on Thursday evening, giving Washington two victories over Michigan in the last week after the football team beat the No. 10 Wolverines 27-17 on Saturday.

Despite a strong attack, putting 7 shots on goal against Michigan’s Stephanie Sparkowski, the Huskies were held scoreless in the first half.

The Huskies fell behind briefly early in the second half, but senior forward Ioanna Papatheodorou led a rally, scoring 2 goals to give the Huskies the lead. Sophomore Samiah Shell added the third Husky point and joined Paptheodorou in a tie for the team lead in goals with 5.

The win lifts head coach Nicole Van Dyke’s Huskies to a 7-4-2 record as the Huskies enter into a stretch of tough conference opponents, starting with the No. 5 Michigan State Spartans on Sunday, October 13 at 1:00 p.m. at Husky Soccer Stadium.
