Washington to be eligible for the Alamo Bowl for the next two seasons

The Washington Huskies will continue to be eligible for the Alamo Bowl for the next two seasons.

The Pac-12 may be gone, but some of its traditions aren’t. On Thursday, the Alamo Bowl announced that for the next two seasons, it will be able to choose its competitors from the current pool of Big 12 members, and all former members of the Pac-12.

That includes the two schools remaining in the conference, ACC-bound Cal and Stanford, along with Oregon, USC, UCLA, and Washington.

“This collaboration between the Big 12 and Pac-12 as well as the former Pac-12 members and their new conferences in the ACC and the Big Ten will help us continue to hosthrilling games between nationally ranked teams in front of capacity crowds while setting us up for success during the next round of bowl agreements that start in 2026,” said the Valero Alamo Bowl’s 2024 Chair Clyde Rucker.

“The San Antonio bowl experience is a special one, and the Valero Alamo Bowl is looking forward to rewarding two of these 24 universities with an unforgettable holiday trip to celebrate their successful seasons.”

Jedd Fisch and the Huskies both have some history with the game, as Fisch and the Arizona Wildcats beat the Oklahoma Sooners 38-24 in the 2023 Alamo Bowl. In 2022, Kalen DeBoer’s team beat coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns 27-20.

That was Sarkisian’s second trip to San Antonio, his first came at the helm with the Huskies in 2011 in one of the highest-scoring bowl gamw, although Washington lost to the Baylor Bears and Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III 67-56.
