Washington softball’s bats fall silent in loss to No. 22 Arizona

The Washington Huskies got shut out by the Arizona Wildcats and were unable to complete the sweep in Tucson.

After two straight games of scoring double-digit runs against the No. 22 Arizona Wildcats in Tucson, the No. 7 Washington Huskies were silenced on Sunday, falling 2-0.

Coach Heather Tarr’s team won the series on the road but failed to complete the sweep and sits in third in the Pac-12 behind Stanford and UCLA with a 4-2 record in conference play and 20-4 overall.

Arizona improved to 20-7-1 overall and 3-3 in Pac-12 play, thanks to a tremendous outing from pitchers Miranda Stoddard and Aissa Silva, who earned the win to move to 12-3 on the season. They combined to stifle Washington’s elite offense, holding it to just 3 hits on the afternoon.

First year Sidne Peters got the start in the circle for the Huskies and went 2 1/3 innings, allowing just 2 hits before giving way to sophomore Ruby Meylan.

The 2023 Third Team All-American allowed 4 hits over 3 2/3 innings and took the loss after giving up a two-run home run to Olivia DiNardo in the sixth inning. With the loss, Meylan, who has been Tarr’s biggest workhorse this season, fell to 8-3.

Washington will return to Husky Softball Stadium on March 22 to kick off a three-game series with the No. 16 UCLA Bruins.
