Washington softball adds a top middle infielder from the transfer portal

Coach Heather Tarr has a lot of work to do to rebuild her team and has earned her first commitment from the transfer portal.

With eight members of the 2024 Washington Huskies in the transfer portal, coach Heather Tarr has a lot of work to do to rebuild her roster. She took the first step toward doing so on Thursday night, earning a commitment from Montana Grizzlies star Riley Peschek.

Even though the Grizzlies went just 1-14 in conference play and 17-33 overall, Peschek impressed in her first year and was named to the All-Big Sky first team for her efforts.

The native of Gig Harbor, Washington posted a .350 batting average and led the team with her 1.055 OPS, 5 home runs, 33 runs batted in, and 89 total bases in her one year at Montana before deciding to enter the transfer portal and return home.

Peschek has some room for improvement in the field but did a good job during her first season, tallying 9 errors on 180 chances, good for a .950 fielding percentage.

Stepping in to replace senior Rylee Holtorf won’t be an easy task, especially due to the rise in competition in the move from the Big Sky to the Big Ten, but Peschek’s ability to get on base and drive in runs consistently should make her a valuable asset for the Huskies in 2025.
