Washington sets official visit with former Virginia commit

The Washington Huskies invited a versatile defender for an official visit on June 21.

The Washington Huskies coaching staff have added three-star defender Donovan Robinson to their list of official visitors for the June 21 weekend. He committed to the Virginia Cavaliers on April 19, but decommitted from coach Tony Elliott’s class on June 3 and set his official visit with coach Jedd Fisch shortly after.

Robinson, a product of Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois, is ranked as the nation’s No. 84 linebacker by 247Sports, but Fisch’s coaching staff might have a hybrid role in mind.

He received his offer from linebackers coach Robert Bala and safeties coach Vinnie Sunseri, meaning that the coaching staff sees him aligning at multiple positions at the college level thanks to his 6-foot-3, 210-pound frame.

“They like my athleticism and they also like my versatility because they don’t have to play me at a specific position,” Robinson told Dawgman.com. They just like me as a football player and that’s why they offered me.”

“I could definitely picture myself playing in that defense,” he said. “It’s a different defense, but you can see how the athletes fit in it. It’s a pro defense and it looks like a really fun defense to play in.”

The Huskies are hosting a majority of their top targets at both positions over the same weekend, with four-star linebackers Christian Thatcher, Zaydrius Rainey-Sale, and Mark Iheanachor in attendance along with three-star safeties Rylon Dillard-Allen and Aiden Manutai.
