Washington sees two trench targets commit elsewhere

The Washington Huskies are still exploring their options along the offensive and defensive lines.

The Washington Huskies are looking to build through the trenches in the 2025 class ahead of their first season in the Big Ten but will have to look elsewhere for additional reinforcements.

On Tuesday, the Huskies saw three-star offensive lineman Elijah Vaikona commit to USC and three-star defensive tackle Chace Sims pledge his services to Texas A&M. Both prospects took official visits to Washington, with Sims traveling to Seattle on May 31, and Vaikona making his trip up north on June 21.

Vaikona, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 113 tackle by 247Sports, has been one of the most popular offensive line prospects in the country during the spring and summer, thanks to his hulking size at 6-foot-8 and 370 pounds. He holds 21 offers and picked USC over Washington and UCLA.

Offensive coordinator Brennan Carroll has two commits on the offensive line in four-star Champ Taulealea and three-star Jake Flores. He could also be closing in on a third, in-state Kennedy Catholic High School prospect Lowen Colman-Brusa.

Sims, the nation’s No. 61 defensive lineman, would have probably been the final addition along a defensive line that includes three-star prospects Dominic Macon, Caleb Smith, Victor Sanchez Hernandez, and Devin Hyde.

Both positions have shown to be arguably the toughest to recruit in the 2025 class, and now Washington’s coaching staff will have to look for some other options at the positions if it wants to keep adding to the nation’s No. 19 recruiting class.
