The Washington Huskies were already expecting to be without running back Cameron Davis in 2025 after a six-year career on Montlake.
Davis, a team captain this season, walked on Senior Night. There was never any indication that he had any remaining eligibility after using a redshirt season and his COVID year of eligibility.
And yet, Davis is off to the transfer portal, not the pros.
The senior posted on social media on Monday that he is entering the transfer portal for his seventh and final year of eligibility, implying that he was granted a medical hardship waiver for the 2023 season, which he missed with a torn ACL.
Davis is the second running back to enter the transfer portal after Sam Adams II announced his intentions earlier on Monday. Punters Jack McCallister and Adam Saul, edge rushers Maurice Heims and Lance Holtzclaw, safety Tristan Dunn, long snapper Caleb Johnston, and wide receiver Camden Sirmon have all entered the portal in recent days as well.
In his six seasons, Davis racked up 1,093 yards and 15 touchdowns on 253 rushing attempts. His best season was in 2022 when he took 107 carries for 522 yards and 13 scores. With Jonah Coleman and Adam Mohammed joining the Huskies in 2024, however, Davis was largely relegated to third-string duties.
Coleman and Mohammed will return in 2025. Fifth-year senior Daniyel Ngata has one more year of eligibility but walked on Senior Night with Davis. Outside of him, the only returning running back behind Coleman and Mohammed to touch the ball in a Huskies uniform is freshman Jordan Washington, who had one carry for four yards this year.
