We all knew it was coming, but the Washington football team made it official on Monday morning…
They will no longer be the Washington Redskins.

Ever since the name debate fire got stoked a few weeks back, this has seemingly been the foregone conclusion. Ever since team owner Dan Snyder announced that they would conduct a ‘thorough review’ of the team name, there was nothing other to do than change it, whether fans agreed with that decision or not. Now, with the official word out that a new name will be put into place, the real drama can begin as fans and players alike lobby for what they think the mascot should be.
Much of the buzz on social media has been in favor of the Redwolves, with the Warriors and Redtails also getting some traction. A lot of breadcrumbs on Twitter over the weekend have led many to believe that this ode to an endangered species in America will be the selection, and DL Jonathan Allen’s ‘HTTR’ tweet sent the rumor mill buzzing.
Httr!

If you were asleep last night and missed the potential #Redwolves news I’ll catch you up.
Fred Smoot tweeted out our kids will know us by the #Redwolves from now on. Chuck Hernandez replied with a GIF of wolves rallying together, and Lake Lewis tweeted a pic of the NWO wolfpack. pic.twitter.com/sWa6xsz92b

It was reported on Sunday night that the name would be retired today, so the official news does not come as much of a surprise. However, the next few days are when things will get really interesting, and you’ll need to keep your ears to the ground. Stay tuned to RedskinsWire for all of your name-changing updates.
