Washington at Steelers: Game notes
- Washington routed the Dallas Cowboys 41-16 on Thanksgiving in Week 13 to win a second game in a row. Washington stifled the Cowboys’ rushing attack and held them to just 60 yards on 18 carries and forced a fumble out of RB Ezekiel Elliott.
- Washington rookie RB Antonio Gibson sneakily is having one of the best rookie campaigns this year in the NFL. Gibson has 645 rushing yards on 4.6 yards per rush and is leading all NFL rookies with 11 touchdowns.
- The Steelers are coming off a 19-14 home win vs. the Baltimore Ravens in Week 12. The game was played last Wednesday as the Ravens have been ravaged by a combination of positive COVID tests and contact tracing protocols. In the win, Pittsburgh lost a key defensive contributor—LB Bud Dupree who’s second on the team in sacks—with a torn ACL.
- Pittsburgh opened up as 11-point favorites but the market has been hitting Washington enough that bookmakers have moved the line way down to the current price.
Betting stats:
- ATS: Washington 6-5 | Steelers 8-3
- O/U: Washington 5-6 | Steelers 4-5-2

Washington at Steelers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks
Prediction
Washington 23, Steelers 21
Money line (?)
This is low-key a defensive battle with two of the top-5 defenses in the NFL squaring off. Pittsburgh and Washington are first and second in both opponent’s passing yards per game and sack rate.
I give Washington the edge because it has more balance on offense at the moment. QB Alex Smith is by far the best quarterback on the roster and Washington has produced at least 150 yards on both the ground and through the air in back-to-back weeks.
Pittsburgh has rushed for fewer than 100 yards five times in its last six games. The injury report gives me no confidence it gets better against Washington.
All that being said, I only lean Washington (+240) for a quarter-unit because taking the points is the smarter play.
Against the spread (?)
GIMME WASHINGTON +6.5 (-105) for 2 units. Washington’s defense is almost as stingy as Pittsburgh’s. As long as Washington doesn’t turn the ball over, this game should finish within a field goal either way. That’s easier said than done against a Steelers defense that has the most takeaways in the NFL.
Over/Under (?)
PASS with a lean to the Under 43.5 (-105). My predicted score is only a half-point off, which means the line is perfect (in my head).
