The Washington Huskies have added a two-time junior college All-American.
Maximus McCree, a 6-foot-6, 293 lb tackle from the Kansas City area, announced his commitment to the Huskies on Friday. A JUCO All-American in 2020 and 2021 for Iowa Central, one of the nation’s premier junior college programs, McCree spent one year in the Big Ten at Maryland in 2022 before returning to Iowa Central for the 2023 season.
McCree is the third offensive lineman to commit to the Huskies for the fall, joining Portland State transfer D’Angalo Titialii and Ohio State transfer Enokk Vimahi. It also brings the Huskies to 14 scholarship offensive linemen after ending the spring with 7 healthy scholarship linemen.
A left tackle by trade, McCree could potentially push for the starting job on quarterback Will Rogers’ blindside if the Huskies staff feels more comfortable putting San Diego State transfer Drew Azzopardi on the right side. Azzopardi, the most experienced healthy lineman in the spring, has spent time on both sides.
With Azzopardi entrenched as a starter, McCree, Kahlee Tafai, and Elishah Jackett will likely be battling for the other starting tackle spot. Jackett worked at both left and right tackle in the spring, while Tafai worked primarily at right tackle and right guard before missing part of the spring with an injury.
McCree reportedly has three seasons of eligibility remaining despite graduating from high school in 2020.
