Washington continues its search for its final assistant coach position

The Washington Huskies have yet to sign a linebackers coach to their 2024 coaching staff.

Coach Jedd Fisch is still looking for one more assistant to join his Washington Huskies coaching staff for the upcoming season. After Fisch hired two former New England Patriots staff members, outside linebackers coach Steve Belichick as his defensive coordinator and running backs coach Vinnie Sunseri as the safeties coach, Fisch has filled nine of the 10 available assistant coach openings.

The final spot will go to an inside linebackers coach and during his signing day press conference on February 7, Fisch said that he had “a couple more people” to interview before making a decision. Like his other outside hires, it’s safe to assume that Washington’s next linebackers coach will come from the ranks of the NFL.

Fisch and his staff continue to emphasize their connections to the league on social media, and after telling The Athletic’s Ari Wasserman that his salary pool was $3.5 million larger than what he was given at Arizona on the Until Saturday Podcast, he has the backing to do it too.

As the Huskies continue to attempt to build out their 2025 recruiting class, finalizing the right linebackers coach will be crucial. Washington will need to add at least two high school prospects to the room, with seniors Carson Bruener, Alphonzo Tuputala, and Bryun Parham all out of eligibility at the end of the season.

The coaching staff has extended offers to 15 high school linebackers and with the ability to offer them early playing time next season, the Huskies could find themselves in the mix for some of the top prospects at the position but will need a linebackers coach before they can attempt to close on any recruits.
