It wasn’t the type of start veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick envisioned when he signed with the Washington Football Team back in March.
Fitzpatrick began his Washington career completing just three of six passes for 13 yards when he was hit from behind by Los Angeles linebacker Uchenna Nwosu, landing awkwardly on his right side. Fitzpatrick was immediately checked on by the training staff and left the game.
Washington announced early in the second half he would miss the remainder of the game with a hip injury.
Taylor Heinicke entered the game for Washington and played well. Heinicke completed 11 of 15 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, Washington’s defense couldn’t stop the Chargers and negated a solid relief performance from Heinicke in a 20-16 loss.
After the game, Washington coach Ron Rivera was asked about Fitzpatrick and said the team would know more tomorrow.
Ron Rivera said he doesn't have an update on Ryan Fitzpatrick: "Just something to do with his hip and we'll know more tomorrow."

Hopefully, for Washington and Fitzpatrick, the injury isn’t serious. Washington is on a short week this week, as it hosts the New York Giants on Thursday.
