Alex Smith’s family made sure to mark a significant milestone in the quarterback’s comeback. The marker? A champagne shower.
With the Washington football team’s doctors clearing Smith to play in 2020, his family celebrated with a surprise bath of bubbly.
Smith’s NFL future was in doubt when the Washington quarterback suffered a gruesome broken leg on Nov. 18, 2018 that landed him in the hospital for four hospital stays and 17 different surgeries, which came with many complications, including infection. The injury and ensuing infection were so severe that he said he felt “lucky to be alive.”
And that’s why there is all the more reason to celebrate his ability to get back to football.

What an amazing achievement.
He will compete for the starting quarterback job against Dwayne Haskins for 2020. If he wins the starting job, perhaps he’ll be in the mix to win the Comeback Player of the Year award.
