Washington CB Darren Barkins enters transfer portal

The Washington Huskies lost veteran CB Darren Barkins to the transfer portal.

Cornerback Darren Barkins is one of the rare players in the Oregon/Washington rivalry to have seen both sides. He started his career with the Ducks before transferring to Seattle in the spring ahead of the 2023 season.

However, despite being listed as a co-starter at the position in 2024, he was never able to establish himself as part of Washington’s secondary and on Tuesday afternoon, entered the transfer portal.

During his two years at Washington, Barkins appeared in five games and recorded 5 tackles, but struggled to stay on the field due to a variety of injuries. His departure marks 11 scholarship players that have entered the transfer portal after coach Jedd Fisch’s first season on Montlake and leaves Washington in a curious spot at the position.

With Ephesians Prysock and Elijah Jackson expected to return for their senior seasons, Washington doesn’t have a lot of proven depth behind the two upperclassmen. Sophomores Leroy Bryant and Caleb Presley would be the next men up in 2025, while incoming four-star freshman Dylan Robinson is expected to make a push for playing time.

The Huskies will also have true freshmen D’Aryhian Clemons and Ramonz Adams, along with redshirt freshman Elias Johnson on the roster. Cornerbacks coach John Richardson may also take to the transfer portal for another experienced body and should make a serious push to reel in one of his best products, Arizona cornerback Tacario Davis, to round out the depth at the position.
