Washington benches Dwayne Haskins, will start Kyle Allen vs. Rams

The Rams will not face Dwayne Haskins after all on Sunday afternoon.

If the Rams were preparing to face Dwayne Haskins in Week 5, they’ll have to change up their plans. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Washington Football Team is benching Haskins and will start Kyle Allen at quarterback on Sunday against the Rams.

Haskins has struggled for Washington this season, completing only 61.0% of his passes with four touchdowns and three interceptions. He’s also fumbled it four times in four games.

Allen started 12 games for the Panthers last season, where Ron Rivera was the head coach. Washington acquired Allen from the Panthers in a trade this offseason, signaling that he could get a chance to take the starting job from Haskins.

It’s just surprising that the change happened so quickly, and ahead of a difficult matchup with a stout Rams defense.

The Rams and Washington will square off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon from FedEx Field. Los Angeles opened the week as 8.5-point favorites over Washington, but the line has since shifted to Rams -7.5.
