Washington left fielder AJ Guerrero was unstoppable in the Huskies’ weekend series against the Arizona State Sun Devils and although coach Jason Kelly’s team didn’t come out on top, the junior deserved plenty of recognition from the Pac-12 as the conference’s Player of the Week.
Instead, those honors went to Sun Devils outfielder Nick McLain, who also had a spectacular weekend. He hit a walk-off grand slam to beat the Huskies on Friday and went deep 5 times over the weekend with a .591 batting average, 2.018 OPS, 14 runs scored, and 13 runs batted in. But Guerrero was just as good.
Guerrero, who went 10 for 16 on the weekend, posted a .625 average to go along with his 4 home runs, 7 runs scored, and 13 RBIs. His 1.647 OPS doesn’t necessarily stand next to McLain’s out-of-this-world number, but Guerrero certainly deserved some recognition for his major contributions to Washington’s offense over the weekend.
As the Huskies look to make a push down the stretch and into the Pac-12 tournament, Guerrero is certainly going to be a key factor in the middle of the lineup, especially if he can keep up his torrid pace.
That man's back at it again! Dawgs lead!!
