Washington baseball gets routed by No. 2 Oregon State

The Washington Huskies will want to forget the loss they took at the hands of No. 2 Oregon State on Saturday.

Saturday is a day that Jason Kelly and the Washington Huskies will want to forget. Projected first-round pick Travis Bazzana hit a leadoff home run for the second straight day, this one coming on the first pitch he saw for the No. 2 Oregon State Beavers, and it was all downhill from there for the Huskies.

The Beavers went on to score 10 runs in the opening frame, headlined by a grand slam from outfielder Gavin Turley and a three-run double off the bat of outfielder Dallas Macias.

Starter Calvin Kirchoff made it through just 1/3 of an inning, allowing 8 earned runs on 6 hits and 2 walks. Washington’s pitching staff didn’t fare well as a whole in Corvallis, allowing 18 runs and 17 hits as the Huskies fell 18-2 to give the series win to the Beavers.

Sophomore Sam DeCarlo hit his second home run of the season for the Huskies on a day where there wasn’t much else to be excited about, as Washington mustered just 6 hits in the contest.

With the loss, Kelly’s team fell to 6-10-1 on the season and 1-4 in Pac-12 play, while the Beavers improved to 20-2 this year and 4-1 against conference opponents. The two teams will finish up their three-game set on Sunday afternoon at 1:05.
