After freshman Dermaricus Davis entered the transfer portal during spring practice and departed for UCLA, the Washington Huskies were in dire need of a third scholarship quarterback. On Wednesday, coach Jedd Fisch found his final signal caller in Northern Colorado product Shea Kuykendall.
Originally a three-star recruit from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in California, Kuykendall redshirted during the 2022 season at Northern Colorado. Then in 2023, he played in four games, starting 3, where he completed 52 of his 81 pass attempts for 454 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions.
Now he will join a room with senior Will Rogers, who will take the starting job in his final year of eligibility after transferring from Mississippi State, and freshman Demond Williams who impressed throughout spring practice.
Kuykendall should compete with Williams for the backup job this season and could push him for the starting role once again in 2025 while helping the incoming pair of Dash Beierly and Treston Kini McMillan develop behind him.
All glory to God. After an amazing visit and receiving an offer, I’m blessed to announce that I am committed to THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON!! @CoachJeddFisch @CoachJimmieD @UW_Football #PurpleReign #GoDawgs pic.twitter.com/cf8hUDFcKe

His starting experience is a valuable addition to the room this year, as Davis’ departure left quarterbacks coach Jimmie Dougherty and Washington’s offense in a very tough spot, with just two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster.
