Coach Heather Tarr and the Washington Huskies added another piece to their rotation on Monday morning when former Montana Grizzlies pitcher Rylee Rehbein announced she would be coming home to join the Huskies.
A product of Battle Ground, Washington, Rehbein becomes the second member of the Grizzlies from the state to enter the transfer portal before eventually deciding to come home and commit to Tarr’s squad, joining infielder Riley Peschek.
During her one season at Montana, Rehbein struggled, posting a 6-5 record, 5.55 ERA, and 1.97 WHIP over 93 innings. She let up a .343 batting average against and struck out a team-high 73 batters while allowing 45 walks as the Grizzlies’ entire pitching staff couldn’t find their footing.
At Washington, she could fit right in as a developmental relief option alongside Florida State transfer Madi Balk. Although it’s at a lower level, she brings a significant amount of experience to the pitching staff that Balk and incoming freshman Morgan Reimer don’t have.
She is an intriguing prospect for pitching coach Brad Kilpatrick to work with and as the Huskies look for at least one more pitcher to add to the roster, adding Rehbein shouldn’t take Tarr’s team out of the running for the best player in the portal, Stanford transfer NiJaree Canady.
Thank you so much to my coaches, teammates, and all of my friends for making my freshman year at Montana so memorable. However, I am extremely excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Washington! I’m extremely thankful to… pic.twitter.com/vaYUKoXxUE
