Washburn: Ray Allen ‘has been invited’ by team to Kevin Garnett retirement ceremony

Is the feud finally over?

Could the longstanding feud between Boston Celtics champion shooting guard and the rest of the 2008 title team that hung Banner 17 for Boston be on the verge of ending? Is it already over with the media having kept the feud on life support by picking at scabs?

Whatever the ontological status of one of the longest-running grudges in basketball might well be about to end officially, with word from the Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn relating that the Celtics have invited the former UConn standout to be present for Kevin Garnetts jersey retirement ceremony this Sunday after Boston’s tilt with the Dallas Mavericks at TD Garden.

Notably, Washburn shares that the team is “using the KG retirement ceremony as a chance to reunite the 2008 championship team,” hinting that this is indeed the intention.

No word on whether Allen will make the trip, but on behalf of the Celtics Wire and likely many a fan, we earnestly hope to see this group together again — even if they won’t otherwise be the best of friends.
