Washburn: Boston’s Jayson Tatum needs to have an MVP season in 2023-24

The Celtics star needs to shut up and put up after two squandered postseason opportunities.

For much of the early part of the NBA’s 2022-23 season, star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum looked every bit the part of the front-runner for the league’s 2023 Most Valuable Player award.

Then his season went sideways. Tatum’s game slipped a few gears. The Celtics campaign to return to the NBA Finals fizzled out in a rematch with the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference finals.

Will the St. Louis native take over the league and stake his claim for the 2024 NBA MVP?

“Tatum has to go into this year coming up and be like, this is my MVP year, this is my year,” said Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe during a recent guest appearance on the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say about Tatum’s expectations heading into 2023-24.
