Warriors waive veterans Rudy Gay and Rodney McGruder after preseason finale

The Warriors will reportedly start the season with 13 players on the roster.

After their preseason finale, the Golden State Warriors went right into business mode. Following their loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night, the Warriors waived two players as they trimmed their roster down for the start of the regular season.

Late on Friday night, the Warriors waived veterans Rudy Gay and Rodney McGruder. With both McGruder and Gay waived, the Warriors are expected to start the season with 13 players on the roster, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

The Warriors will have to add a 14th player before the two-week mark in the NBA season. During the offseason, the Warriors brought in a flurry of veterans to work out and compete for their 14th roster spot, including Gay, McGruder and Dwight Howard.

While Gay did not play on Friday night, McGruder scored eight points on 3-of-9 shooting from the field in 20 minutes off the bench in the Warriors’ 122-117 loss.
