Warriors star trio had some initial pause over adding Chris Paul

According to Mike Dunleavy, the Golden State Warriors trio, along with Chris Paul, took some time to see the upside of a union.

Chris Paul and the Golden State Warriors have a long and tenuous history. The veteran point guard has been a thorn in Golden State’s side for the majority of his career. Draymond Green, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson have all had their moments with Paul as their competitiveness took hold.

As such, Mike Dunleavy did his due diligence before trading to bring Paul to Golden State. During a recent article for EPSN, Dunleavy told Ohm Youngmimsuk that when he consulted Golden State’s star trio, along with Paul himself, all of them had some pause before quickly changing their minds and being all for the move.

“I wanted to hear from both of them,” Dunleavy told ESPN. “Really anytime we make a big move, whether it’s going to Steph, Klay, Draymond, you want to kind of feel it out and see what they think. All of them initially, including Chris, sort of had some pause. But then they thought about it and real quick became like, ’Let’s do this. This is going to be great.’”

With Paul in the rotation, Golden State has an exceptional guard rotation — arguably the best in the NBA. However, Steve Kerr will have a difficult task on his hands as he looks to integrate Paul into his off-ball movement-heavy system. Kerr will also need to figure out how to get the best out of Paul without sacrificing the contributions of Curry and Thompson.

Paul’s addition to the Warriors raising their championship ceiling, but only if the star contingent can get on the same page and figure out how to co-exist.
