Following the draft order being set after the lottery, mock drafts are beginning to forecast different predictions for what Steve Kerr, Bob Myers and the rest of the Golden State Warriors’ staff will do in July’s draft.
With a pair of selections in the top 14, the Warriors will look to add a dynamic prospect alongside 2020 No. 2 overall James Wiseman while trying to make the jump back to the postseason behind veterans Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
In the latest mock draft from Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, the Warriors landed Baylor’s Davion Mitchell with the No. 7 overall selection. According to O’Connor, Mitchell could help the Warriors in the present and the future.
Via The Ringer:
Mitchell measured shorter than teams were hoping at the NBA draft combine this week, but he still plays bigger than his body suggests as a gritty, strong defender. The Warriors could use a scorer off the bench like him, too. If you consider what Golden State was missing last season, it’s a player like him. Mitchell could help now, and be a bridge toward sustaining success into the future.
On his way to being named the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year in 2021, Mitchell averaged 14 points on 51.1% shooting from the field and 44.7% shooting from beyond the arc on 4.7 3-point attempts per game. The 6-foot-1 guard tacked on 5.5 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals per contest.

The 22-year-old guard helped lead the Bears to the national championship, averaging 13.5 points on 50% shooting from the floor with 5.8 assists, 2.8 boards and 1.7 steals in six games during March Madness.
Behind Curry and Thompson, Mitchell’s defensive presence and proven scoring could give the Warriors an explosive one-two punch off the bench alongside former first-rounder Jordan Poole.
