Warriors’ Moses Moody had a hilarious reason why he takes so many charges

Moody likes to take charges on defense, and there is a hilarious reason why he is so effective at doing so.

Moses Moody entered the NBA draft highly touted for his defensive ability, and that has been on full display during his time with the Golden State Warriors.

Moody earned some praise from Warriors head coach Steve Kerr on Friday after a couple of strong defensive sequences versus the Los Angeles Lakers. He was singled out after drawing a charge late in the game on Talen Horton-Tucker that helped seal the win.

Afterward, Moody told a hilarious story about why he is effective at drawing charges on defense.

When I was a kid on my team, I was in 6th grade, my coach he would give you $1 every time you’d get a charge. I was a businessman, so I’m out there trying to make my money. Honestly, that’s really how it started but ever since then, that has just been part of my game.

Moody knows his best chance at getting on the court is by bringing defensive toughness. The game is slowing down each week for Moody and that has enabled him to really lock in on defense and let his instincts kick in on certain plays.

While his playing time may be sporadic to start the season, Moody projects to develop into a strong 3-and-D player with the Warriors. He could even turn out to be one of the biggest steals of the draft.
