Warriors land UConn’s James Bouknight in latest USA TODAY Rookie Wire mock draft

In the latest Rookie Wire mock draft, the Warriors landed UConn guard James Bouknight with the No. 7 overall pick.

With the draft inching closer and closer, different final predictions are being released for what the Golden State Warriors may do with the No. 7 and No. 14 overall picks on Thursday night.

Before Steve Kerr and Bob Myers are on the clock during the 2021 draft, Cody Taylor of USA TODAY’s Rookie Wire released the final edition of his mock draft before the first round is officially underway.

With the No. 7 pick in Taylor’s mock, the Warriors landed UConn guard James Bouknight. According to Taylor, Bouknight could add some needed firepower to Golden State’s offense in the second unit.

Via Rookie Wire:

Bouknight was named to the All-Big East first team after averaging 18.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals in 15 games. In two years, Bouknight established himself as a strong scorer who can do so at all three levels. Last year, he became the first freshman in nine years to score 20 points in three straight contests. He has worked extensively on his shooting during the pre-draft process and, with some improvement, could be one of the top offensive players in the class. Of course, it remains to be seen if Golden State ultimately takes this pick, as they have been said to be interested in trading it, but Bouknight would offer some needed offense off the bench.

On the way to being named to the All-Big East first team in his second season at UConn, Bouknight averaged 18.7 points on 44.7% shooting from the floor with 5.7 boards and 1.8 assists in 31.7 minutes per contest.

Against Creighton, Bouknight showed off his red-hot scoring repertoire, dropping a career-best 40 points on 13-of-24 shooting from the floor. During his career-high performance, the 20-year-old knocked down five triples on 12 attempts from long distance.

Pairing Bouknight alongside Jordan Poole would give Golden State an exciting backcourt duo that could help carry Kerr’s offense when Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are off the floor.
